Coalitions: New Hampshire Child Advocacy Network
New Hampshire Kids Count brings people together for kids by convening broad and inclusive groups of partners. We combine expertise, address specific challenges and craft public policy solutions to effect system-wide change. The oldest coalition led by NH Kids Count is the New Hampshire Child Advocacy Network, known as NH CAN.
New Hampshire Child Advocacy Network
Formed in 1999, NH CAN is a coalition of state and local organizations working together for the well-being of New Hampshire’s kids. NH CAN Partners annually develop a unified legislative agenda focused on children’s health, safety, education and economic security. Partners then advocate for the agenda, known as Priorities for New Hampshire’s Children, in the New Hampshire Legislature.
Each fall, NH CAN Partners bring forward policy ideas to be considered as NH CAN Priorities. Through a series of small group meetings Partners and Advisors together determine which of those ideas will be presented at the annual Children’s Summit where the final Priorities will be determined. The Priorities for New Hampshire’s Children are then presented to the Legislature in January.
NH Kids Count staff provides guidance and support to Partners as Priorities become bills and move through the Legislature.
